Founder and leader of Drum Circus from Switzerland has been the master drummer Peter Giger. 'A giant on drums', as the newspaper 'Rhein-Main-Zeitung' called him. He was joined, among others, by two additional drummers, as well as by Joel Vandroogenbroeck and Carole Muriel, both from Brainticket. Therefore, it's not surprising that 'Magic theatre', with its LSD-dripping lyrics (partly written by Timothy Leary, partly influenced by 'The Tibetan book of the dead'), reminds sometimes forcefully of the early Brainticket. 'Magic theatre' was recorded in the excellent studio of Horst Jankowski in Stuttgart. Yet, it remained unreleased, then. Shortly before his death, Horst Jankowski gave the tapes to Peter Giger. Recorded over Summer 1974 while Fred were headlining at NYC’s world famous nightspot The Bitter End, these are raw, in your face live performances that will lift you up and blow you away. It is high octane, aggressive electric instrumental music with a pulse pounding beat, wailing gutsy guitar, and wild violin pyrotechnics.

"Live At The Bitter End” features all new original music, ranging from tender to tortured, demented to delirious, always energetic, edgy, enigmatic, and full of surprises. With strong melodic themes over innovative rhythms, six pieces of the puzzle are carefully arranged into a seemingly endless variety of combinations, and then each is set loose over elegant structures for solo flights in the twilight zone of improvisation.

Influenced by Mahavishnu, Zappa, Jethro Tull, Yes, Spirit, King Crimson, Bartok, and Stravinsky, as well as inspired by musicians like Jean-Luc Ponty, Jerry Garcia, Bill Bruford, Herbie Hancock, John Bonham, Jerry Goodman, Robin Trower, Joe Zawinul, Chris Squire, and Stephane Grappelli, Fred had by 1974 assimilated and fused a staggering array of disparate elements into their sound.

Embryo "Wiesbaden 1972" CD 15,00 €

On December 17th, 1972, Embryo and Aus dem Nichts played in the Wartburg, a Wiesbaden hall. It was one of the gigs that were recorded by Xhol (Caravan) acquaintance Muck Krieger. His recording equipment was then state-of-the-art: an Uher tape recorder CR 124 and two Revox microphones for the spatial acoustics. The result is accordingly well, which you can hear for yourselves now. Hansi Fischer, previously member of Xhol (Caravan) and Embryo, joined the band for the last track. Of his group at that time, Aus dem Nichts, one track from this gig has also been conserved and has been added to the CD as a bonus track. Its artistic style resembles that of the Embryo tracks: rather freely played progressive jazz-rock with world-music elements. The meagre singing is somehow hidden behind the instrumental sound.

An impressive album, highly recommended. Comparable to the early Pink Floyd. Unfortunately the only work of Vinegar. Clearly one of the most looked for German rock LPs and rightly so; progressive and sometimes psychedelic. The singer reminds sometimes of Nico, though mostly there aren´t any vocals. "An unknown gem from an obscure and innovative band" as Steven and Alan Freeman have written in their book "The crack in the cosmic egg". Yet, it is not true, like rumours said, that Vinegar were the predecessors of Electric Sandwich. The CD was taken from the master tape.

Blind Illusion is one of the most extravagant US-Metal Bands from the 1980s."The Sane Asylum" is their only release and also the albumdebut of Les Claypool (Primus). The guitarists Larry Lalonde (Possessed, Primus) and bandleader Mark Biedermann (Blue Oyster Cult "Imaginos") wrote sensational arrangements and created a many faceted style of thrash metal with zappaesque 70s hardrock elements. The remastered World In Sound version comes with linernotes by M. Biederman, unseen photos plus previoulsy unreleased bonustracks taken from the 1985 "Trilogy of Terror" demo, which was produced by Kirk Hammett. Undoubtedly, "The Sane Asylum" is in a similar vein as Metallica's or Testament's early works!

Virus, from the Bielefeld area in Westphalia, were the best and most famous local progressive group in the early seventies. In 1970 they won the well-known competition in the Recklinghausen Vestlandhalle - still under their old name Man´s World. The first prize was the recording for their first own LP under the direction of sound magician Conny Plank. That LP, "Revelation", was released in 1971 and is partly reminiscent of the early Pink Floyd, e. g. in the final part of "Endless game". On the CD edition from Garden of Delights, the two songs of the first Virus 7" single have been added as bonus tracks.

Embryo "Bad Heads And Bad Cats" CD 15,00 €

'Bad heads and bad cats', recorded in the autumn of 1975, was released in 1976 as the eighth LP of the Munich band Embryo. It was also their first album on April, their newly founded independent distribution and label. According to drummer Christian Burchard, it is one of Embryo's best LPs. Due to its jazz focus, however, it might be too unwieldy for some listeners. There was a CD edition in Spain on Disconforme back in 1999, but that has been deleted years ago. The first of the two bonus tracks was recorded in the Stommeln Dierks studio in 1975, together with the other LP tracks, and couldn't be placed on the album for a lack of space. The second one was recorded at the first Vlotho festival on June 28th, 1975, and was first released on the 'Open Air Concert Vlotho-Winterberg' LP. Again all tracks were written by the Embryo members themselves.

Da Capo hailed from Fürth near Nuremberg in the southeast of Germany. Not really typical for a German band with own stuff Da Capo were inspired by late 1960s American west coast scene, bands like Love or Quicksilver Messenger Service. They took their name from Love´s second album "Da Capo" from 1966. On their eponymous album they offer a high tuneful two guitar sound with hints of country but more trippy sounds. 12 minutes title "A Day In The Rest Of My Life" is a fine example for inspired improvisation.

P2O5, founded in Wendelstein near Nuremberg in 1970, released their only LP in 1978 on the Brutkasten label which is today in high demand. There is to be heard hard rock with progressive elements and English lyrics. The Brutkasten studio was only modestly equipped, the sound thus could have been better with the corresponding funds. It now appears for the first time as a CD, with two as yet unreleased bonus tracks and a booklet which leaves nothing to be desired: the detailed band history in German and English, discography, label and cover repros, song lyrics, posters, a Brutkasten story and plenty of band photographs. This CD, by the way, should not be mistaken for that released on Ohrwaschl Records from 1993, which contains other as yet unreleased recordings by P2O5 - there are no overlappings.

Vikings Invasion from the German-speaking part of Switzerland played quite a rough type of blues rock with a progressive touch. Charles Sterchi on guitar and vocals, Eric Eberhard on bass, and Gerhard Burri on drums had played together in this simplest possible configuration already since 1970 and originally called themselves after a character by Brecht. In 1975, their only LP was released exclusively in England where they lived and had concerts for some time; it carried the optimistic title "Vol.1".

Here's a great release of excellent sounding live recordings, made during the 1977 edition of the 'Umsonst Und Draußen' festival in Vlotho. Embryo's mixture of jazz-rock and world music went down extremely well with the crowd, which is why the band played the festival four times in a row, from 1975 to 1978.

This second Long Hair release by Fashion Pink contains previously unreleased studio recordings made beween 1969-1971 and 2 live tracks. First part of this release (6 cuts) continues the SWR-Radio Sessions, truly reflecting the Krautrock jam-characteristics, second part (9 cuts) is the lost studio album from 1971 (never officially released). The group was formed in 1968 by Roland Schaeffer (Sax, Guitar, Bass, Vibes and Vocals) who today plays with Guru Guru. Music presents a large variety of combined styles, mainly freaked-out rock with several atmospheric progressive elements and classical, jazzy themes.

These 5 music enthusiasts are well trained on their instruments and with typical Krautrock vocals they developed a heavy, complex organ and guitar driven sound, sometimes very psychedelic like Pink Floyd as in "Peeling Beans" and also remind of bands like Embryo, Mothers of Invention, Soft Machine and Caravan. Contains some fine cover versions amongst others "Dharma for one", "I´m a man". Another chapter with unreleased original krautrock (total playing time 75 minutes, 12 p. booklet).

Modulo 1000 is one of Brasil´s most famous progressive rock bands of the early 1970s. Their only album from 1971 became legendary in the collectors scene as one of the weirdest South American psych albums. The music is a synergy of British and American heavy rock (Black Sabbath, Hendrix, Led Zeppelin) and obscure Exotica. As Luiz Simas (organ) remembers: "The music of Modulo 1000 had its own appeal to an audience that wanted a heavy, raw, experimental, psychedelic sound. Our kind of music did not make it to the radio stations. It was too wild. The distribution of the record was done in a very limited way. The record label directors, which probably didn't understand or even didn't like our music, did zero promotion for the LP." This 2nd CD-edition contains 8 bonustracks, same as the first edition, but now in jewel box format with 2 booklets a 6 page fold-out of the stunning conceptual original cover artwork, plus an extra 12 p. booklet with, bio and lots of photos. Highly recommended as one of the most terrific psychedelic, artistic statements of the 70s progressive hippie-era!

Originally released in 1973 on famous German label Bacillus, Dzyan´s 2nd album "Time Machine" showed a new line-up consisting of guitar player Eddy Marron (also playing a lot of other string instruments), bass genius; band founder and mastermind Reinhard Karwatky and drummer Peter Giger. Produced by Peter Hauke and recorded and mixed by great engineer Dieter Dierks, the trio performed a new sound here, mutating away from vocal-prog-rock of the first album to further exploring jazz and ethnic tonalities with far more space-out and exotic improvisations to an unusual hybrid of acid-rock with serious jazz chops approaching Mahavishnu-land. "Time Machine" offers virtuous and unorthodox musicianship with a high and very own aesthetic quality. Existing in a no-man´s land between jazz and rock and as a predecessor to the post-rock of the 90s "Time Machine" was way ahead of its time. A highlight in German rock history! This group from the Detroit area is probably the weirdest experimental psych outfit of 1970. Originally the band was hired by Zig Zag Records to do cover tunes and easy listening, with the intention of "just doing whatever we want". The result was an overdosed rock concept album! Original copies are rare and pretty unknown among psych collectors until now! The 7 songs with an average length of 7 mins combine different styles of music, from heavy garage rock to bluesy westcoast, drifting into various tripped-out, funk, jazz, fusion elements with humorous/social comments.

Structure, feeling and complexity can be compared to experimental Krautrock, while the group´s basic sound is represented better by end-60s US Hippie Rock as Country Joe & the Fish or The Head Shop with its excessive fuzz guitar work, Farfisa organ, amazing vocals and several additional instruments like sax, harpsichord, cello, percussion and bells. This studio work is pretty tricky with lots of unexpected mixing and experiments reminiscent of UK´s legendary "White Noise". This CD issue contains a 12 p. colour booklet with a band´s bio and the cool original album design made by John Williams who also worked for Zappa - so it can be assumed which influences Zappa used for his 1972 "Grand Wazoo" album?!Wazoo presents free & atmospheric rock at the highest level of musicianship! Originally released 1979 on Reveal, Concept´s 1st album "Invasion" is truly a highlight of Canadian Psychedelic and Acid Rock. Its undoubted relevance to connoisseurs of Psychedelic and Acid Rock finds valid in the group´s multiple talents playing music of the late Sixties /early Seventies in the late Seventies and early Eighties. Maybe a little bit anachronistic then, but today a real killer for all lovers of the genre. Musically Concept´s "Invasion" reminds sometimes to the early recordings of Amon Düül II with flaming guitar extensions, occasionally strange sound effects and surprising hooks. Guitar player Peter Riden was the main creative force in the band, although on both albums the songwriting and music credits are shared around the band. Bonustracks are very rare 7" "Eliminate the bill / Pour une faveur". CD comes with comprehensive fully colored booklet with linernotes and lyrics. Don´t miss this very rare nugget!

Daniel's producer once said "Daniel plays the cello like Jimi Hendrix the guitar!". This Russian rooted Californian is the wildest rock cellist of the 70s. Classically trained he began to play instruments at the age of 5 and later toured extensively as a professional musician. These 10 original cuts began recording in 1976, eventually to be released in 1979 as a very limited demo to apply for a record deal that would never happen. The music ranges from dramatic Chanson-like ballads to powerful Rock and Roll with great guitar flashes, heavy cello-sounds and Daniel's outstanding voice. This CD is from the original mastertapes and comes with 2 bonus tracks and artist's bio. Definitely a very unique piece of Rock music history, recommended for Darius fans!

The new singer Peter Otten and new bass player Mike Eulner, guitar player Ad Ochel and Ali Claudi as well as drummer Helmut Pohl and keyboarder Eberhart Krietsch start early 1972 their finest album and all time German Krautrock classic album "I turned to see whose voice it was". It was recorded with Conny Plank as the sound engineer and producer in famous Windrose-Dumont studio in Hamburg and released on nowadays famous Krautrock label Brain. As keyboarder Eberhart Krietsch says "from the fairytale prince music of our first album to the apocalypse". With "I turned to see whose voice it was" Gomorrha´s identity had become firmly established: complex psychedelic rock fronted by angry guitars and organ, that could be simultaneously aggressive and spacy, with bizarre lyrics about life, religion, death, etc. They presented an unique adventures und constantly surprising form of rock music that has became an island on to itself. Both CD and LP re-releases come with complete band story, rare photos, lyrics etc. pp. Remastered version, excellent sound quality.
